What does ‘Evolution’ mean in GEOFFREY B. SMALL?

2021年からスタートした「Evolution」。
コロナ禍の渦中、これまでのものづくりやファッションのあり方をあらためて見つめ直したGEOFFREY B.SMALLが、そこからたどり着いた思想を具現化したものです。
シーズンごとに新作を発表し、大量生産や過剰在庫による廃棄、染色などによる環境負荷を生み出す従来のファッションシステムから距離を置き、シーズンや流行に左右されず、本当に価値のある服をつくる。
これまでの服飾史へのリサーチ、自らが蓄積してきたパターン、素材への探究、そして職人たちが培ってきた技術。そうしたものを再研究し、新たなシルエットや素材、加工、プロポーションへと再構築する。
過去から積み重ねてきたものを受け継ぎながら、少しずつ形を変え、さらに先へと発展させていく。
単純な「Evolution」＝「進化」ではなく、その継続的な循環こそが、GEOFFREY B.SMALLにおける「Evolution」です。

“Evolution,” which started in 2021.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, GEOFFREY B.SMALL took a fresh look at the way things are made and how fashion works, and this is the embodiment of the ideas they arrived at from that reflection.
Each season, new pieces are released, distancing themselves from the conventional fashion system that generates waste through mass production, overstock, and environmental loads from dyeing. Instead, they focus on making truly valuable clothing that isn’t swayed by seasons or trends.
Research into fashion history, their own accumulated patterns, exploration of materials, and the skills cultivated by artisans—all of this is re-examined and reconstructed into new silhouettes, materials, treatments, and proportions.
While inheriting what has been built over the years, they gradually change form and continue to develop further.
It’s not just simple “Evolution” = “progress”; this continual cycle is what “Evolution” means for GEOFFREY B.SMALL.
